How to share a website or file for feedback
Sharing your project for feedback is easy, and it works for everyone. From clients who barely know how to click a link to seasoned digital teams, everyone will appreciate the simplicity. Best of all, they don’t even need a BugHerd account to get started.
Simply Copy the Share Link BugHerd automagically creates for each website or file in your project and send it to your client. When they click the link, the BugHerd sidebar will appear, letting them leave feedback without needing to install anything or sign up.
💡 Pro Tip: If your client is more involved in the project, you can invite them via email instead. This gives them access to their own project board, which they can revisit anytime.
What your client will experience
A video explains this better than we ever could so here's a quick demo of what your client will see.
So in summary, when your Client clicks the Share Link:
They'll briefly see a loading page, then be taken to the website or file.
If you’ve installed the JavaScript snippet or WordPress plugin, they can start leaving feedback right away. If not, they’ll be prompted to install a browser extension first.
💡 Pro Tip: For the simplest user experience for your Client, install the JavaScript code or WordPress plugin on your website.
Plus, the first time they use BugHerd:
The sidebar will guide them with helpful tooltips.
They'll be asked for a name and email so you can easily identify who the feedback is from. Note: BugHerd remembers this info, so they won't need to re-enter it.
They'll also receive a welcome email introducing BugHerd and linking them to their very own Client Project Board (available on premium plans and above).
💡 Pro Tip: To customize your branding upload your logo to replace BugHerd’s on the sidebar and in client emails. Go to Organization Settings from the top-left menu.
Notifications your clients receive
By default, clients get:
✉️ Comment notifications (on their own tasks)
✉️ @mentions in comments or tasks
You can optionally enable in your Project's Client permissions settings:
✉️ Task assignment notifications
✉️ Project summary digests (hourly, daily, or weekly)
✉️ Task Done notifications
Clients can also choose to manage their own notifications from their profile icon in the top-right corner of the BugHerd screen.
💡 Pro Tip: As the project owner, you’ll always get notified when a client submits new feedback or replies. That way, nothing gets missed.

Keeping internal comms private
Customers of our Premium plan or above have access to "Private Team commenting" (also know as "Members Only" comments) which allows you to chat internally with your team. Toggle it below the comment field and it turns yellow to let you know it's private. Clients won’t see or be notified about these.
