You’ve been asked to provide feedback on a project using BugHerd. Now what do you do? Let's take a look at what you need to know to get started with BugHerd.

What's BugHerd?

BugHerd is an easy way for you to give feedback on a website. You just click on the web page to leave feedback as you’re viewing the site. Take 2 minutes to watch the video below. We'll look at what BugHerd is and how to get started.

How do I get started?

You'll either receive a link for the project, or be sent an email. 

Getting started from a link

  1. Click the link you've been sent.
  2. You may be directed to get a browser extension. Browser extensions are available for Chrome, Firefox, Safari and Edge. Click the highlighted browser icon and follow the instructions to install it.
  3. You'll be taken to the website, design or document, ready for you to give feedback.
     

Getting started from an email

  1. Open the email invite and click Accept Invite.
     A Welcome to BugHerd window appears.
  2. Enter your name and click Continue.
  3. Your BugHerd project board will open.  

    Here, you can see all the websites, designs and documents you can leave feedback on using BugHerd. 
  4. Click on the website or document you want to give feedback on.
  5. You may be directed to get a browser extension. Browser extensions are available for Chrome, Firefox, Safari and Edge. Click the highlighted browser icon and follow the instructions to install it.
  6. You'll be taken to the website or document, ready to give feedback.

How to give feedback

BugHerd is designed so you can give feedback on a webpage, design or document while you're looking at it.
Just select the type of feedback you want to give: 

  • Feedback on a specific part or element on a web page
  • Feedback on the entire page, or
  • Video feedback

How to give feedback on a specific part of the page

  1. On the BugHerd sidebar, click the plus (+) button.
  2. Click on the website where you want to leave feedback. A new task box appears.
  3. Type your feedback in the box and click Create Task. Your feedback is saved and a pin appears on the webpage.
    If you clicked a link to get started, you may need to add your Name and email for the first piece of feedback you create. 
  4. If you want to edit your feedback, click the pin where you left feedback. The details of the task slide out from the sidebar. 
  5. To view all the feedback you’ve given, click All Tasks in the sidebar. A complete list of feedback you’ve created appears. You may also be able to see tasks created by others.

How to give video feedback

  1. On the BugHerd sidebar, click the video button.
  2. Click to allow microphone permissions for audio recording.
  3. Click to accept screen recording. If you don’t accept screen sharing or screen recording, you won’t be able to use the video feedback feature.
  4. Select whether you want to record your screen, a window or a specific tab of the browser.
  5. Select which screen you want to record. BugHerd enables you to record interactions on your screen. Note that you can’t move to a different page without stopping the recording.BugHerd also gives you a one-minute countdown timer to help you stay concise.
  6. When you’re finished, click Stop Recording.
  7. The Create Task window appears, confirming the screen recording has been captured successfully.
  8. Add any additional information you want in the Task Details window.
  9. Click Create Task to save your video feedback.

It's as easy at that! 

Returning to give more feedback at a later date

After you give your first piece of feedback, you'll receive an email with a Log in link.

Click the link to return to BugHerd and continue giving feedback. 
If your link has expired, you'll be able to request a new email with a valid link. 

You can also request to log in to BugHerd via an email link if you click log in from the BugHerd website.
